Let's take a look at one more new creative Guided Photo Edit in Elements 10, and that is the Picture Stack Guided Edit. This Guided Edit lets you start with a single photo like this one and automatically make a multi-photo collage out of it. To start the Picture Stack Guided Edit, I will go to the Photo Play section of the list of Guided Edits and I will select Picture Stack. Here you can see an example of what this Guided Edit does. Here's an original single photo and here is a four-photo collage after applying Picture Stack.
The first step in making a Picture Stack collage is to select the number of pictures that you're going to end up with: 4, 8 or 12. I will select 4 pictures. And that starts Elements processing my Picture Stack collage. This takes a lot of processing power so you may have to wait a minute or two. But eventually, when the processing is finished, the collage will appear here in the document window. I can customize the collage by changing the width of the borders around each of the photos--this is the small border; I can make it medium or large--and by changing out this black background.
I can add a gradient background that goes from one color to another or a solid-color background. I will use the solid-color background, clicking on it here, and clicking OK to open the color picker. In the color picker I can move the slider to the hue that I'd like to have as my background, and then I can choose a shade of that color from this large field. Or I can choose a color right out of the photo, and that often works better because then the background matches with the colors in the collage.
With the color picker opened like this, if I move the cursor over the photo, it changes to an eyedropper, and I can then click with that eyedropper to select a color. I will come down here, and I'm going to select a green color, and that immediately fills the background with that green. I could fine-tune the color over here in the color picker. And when I am satisfied I will click OK in the color picker to close it, and now my collage is done. I still have the option to reset all of the settings or to just go right up here and choose a different number of pictures, 8 or 12, for my Picture Stack collage.
I am happy with the collage as it is, so I will click Done, and that closes this Guided Edit, and at this point, I would save and close this Picture Stack collage, including it in my Elements Organizer.
