This course shows beginning filmmakers how to make a short documentary from footage they have already shot, and walks them from the editing process in Adobe Premiere Elements through uploading a finished movie to platforms like Vimeo or YouTube. Author and producer Jason Osder explains how the footage was shot along the way, illuminating why particular angles were chosen and how the subject matter influences the editing process. The course also covers trimming, editing to music, and adding a title and graphics, and the final chapters result in a polished, color-corrected movie with properly mixed dialog and music.
Your movie needs a name, and to announce that name to the world, we need to make what's called a Title Card. In this case, I envision a fairly simple piece of text, put over this nice abstract orange image at the beginning. Let's get that going. Now we have generated our initial title, and I want to type in the title of our piece. Now I want to adjust the style. I often sort of use a hybrid approach here, picking one of these pre-made styles and then tweaking it so it works even better for me.
I want to find one with a nice drop shadow, because I think that's going to help it stand out over this orange image. That's a bit too much. Okay, I like that drop shadow, but now I'm not happy with the font. So I want to adjust that, something kind of classical, kind of simple, kind of like Times. And then I think I want to go bold. Yeah that's pretty close to what I envision.
Now I want to position it better. Of course, I am staying inside these guide markers, which is what they're there for. Okay, that's the look I want, but the timing down here on the timeline is not right at all, and I want to fix that before I render. I want this to be totally done before I go to the tools. I don't ever want to see this title over that shot. So I want to trim this back. Zoom in to get a bit of a closer look. And I think I want to fade this up and down with dissolves.
Okay, I want to see what I've done here, but no need to render the whole timeline, so I'm gonna shorten up my work area. Do a quick render. (music playing) (Female speaker: My favorite thing in the world--) This is starting to come together. I like how that works. I often find that with graphics-- depending on the complexity and the budget of the piece--I tend to take one or two paths. This path, which is generally based on keeping it simple, using the tools and the pre-built styles but doing a little tweak. Or on larger fancier projects, I find that I generally use a totally different program and sometimes a dedicated artist to make my graphics.
In this case--kind of the simple scenario--I'm very pleased with what we achieved here.
