Publishers, designers, writers, and production staff: Learn how to use the software you already use to create print books—Adobe InDesign CC—to create ebooks. Start here with the fundamentals. Anne-Marie Concepción takes a close look at EPUB, the standard format for ebooks, and shows you how to set up and work with InDesign to create, edit, and export them. Learn what's hidden inside an EPUB, what the EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 standards mean for you, and how InDesign can be the fastest road to an EPUB, with its ability to automatically convert your files into the necessary HTML and CSS. You'll also discover how to optimize text, graphics, tables, and videos in your existing layouts, and tailor your EPUBs specifically for the Kindle, Kobo, and Nook ereaders. Anne-Marie also reviews the ebook features exclusive to InDesign CC, such as object style mapping, pop-up footnotes, Typekit integration, and linked indexes.

Welcome

Welcome to InDesign CC: EPUB Fundamentals. In this course we'll take a close look at EPUBs, the standard format for ebooks today, and how we can use Adobe InDesign CC to create them. I'll start by showing you what is inside an EPUB file using free scripts for Mac and Windows. We'll learn what the ePUB 2, and ePUB 3 standards really mean. And how InDesign converts files to the standard HTML and CSS they require.

You'll see how to optimize your text, graphics, tables, and videos. I'll show you how to use new ePUB features, and Indesign CC like object style mapping, pop-up footnotes, and linked indexes. See how you can create sophisticated and interactive standards-compliant EPUB files with a streamlined workflow, and then proof them on your eReader. We'll also cover how to use InDesign to optimize files for exporting eBooks specifically for the Amazon Kindle, and other eReaders like the Kobo and the Nook.
