In Dreamweaver CS5 Essential Training, Adobe Certified Instructor James Williamson explores the tools and techniques of Dreamweaver CS5, Adobe's web design and development software. This course covers both the ins and outs of Dreamweaver, as well as recommended best practices for crafting new web sites and files, the fundamentals of HTML and CSS, and how to ensure clean and accessible code. The course also includes how to use tools in Dreamweaver to create and style web pages, manage multiple sites, and add user interactivity with widgets and scripting. Exercise files are included with the course.
If you are a premium subscriber to the lynda.com Online Training Library, you have access to the exercise files for this title. I recommend downloading the exercise files and placing them in a central location while you work, such as your Desktop or your Documents directory. For this course, I recommend defining an overall site for working with the exercise files and then redefining that site for each individual exercise. To illustrate this, I am going to walk you through the Site Setup process in Dreamweaver. So here I am in Dreamweaver. To begin working on my exercise files, I am just going to go right down to the Welcome Screen and create a new Dreamweaver Site.
Now, for this title, I recommend naming the Site Explore California, but in truth, you could name it anything that you would like. Now, for the Local Site Folder, I am going to Browse, and I am going to go out on the Desktop where I have placed my Exercise_Files. I am going to open those up, and I will see a listing of all the chapters in this course. Now, I certainly recommend starting from the beginning of the title and working your way through, but if you would like to jump to a specific exercise, that's fine. Whatever exercise you are interested in working on, you are going to go inside that Chapter, find the folder number that corresponds to your exercise, open that up, and choose Select.
At that point, we will Save the Site Setup, and your Exercise_Files will appear in your Files panel ready to use. When you are done with this exercise and ready to begin another one, you just go right back to the Files panel, double- click on the Site Name, in this case Explore California, and that will bring back your Site Setup dialog box. You can now Browse for another directory and move on to the next movie or the next exercise that you are interested in. Just repeat that process for every exercise that you will be working with. Now that you have seen how to manage the Exercise_Files for this course, you are ready to begin.
