When you generate a script from phpMyAdmin, it can be executed either in another copy of phpMyAdmin or in any other user interface for MySQL. In most cases, if you're working with an Internet Service Provider, you'll have a copy of phpMyAdmin that you can use. If you're working with an independent copy of MySQL, you can download a copy of the MySQL user interface tools from the MySQL web site. The script should work in that software as well. Before you run the script on your remote server, go into the script and make any changes you need.
For example, I'm going to change the name of my database from explorecalifornia, the local name, to exploreremote. Changing this comment doesn't have any actual effect on the database itself. You'll still create the database manually in phpMyAdmin, but then you'll run the script in phpMyAdmin against the new database. I'll save the changes and close the text editor, and then I'll go to phpMyAdmin.
Within phpMyAdmin, I'll create a new database, and I'll name it exploreremote. I'll click Create, and then I'll click the Import button, and I'll navigate to the location of MySQL file, which I've placed in the exercise files area, under the chapter for this folder, 09_deployremote. And then the name of the file is explorecalifornia.sql. I'll select the file and click Go. My new database now has the structure and wherever I've left the insert statements in the actual data.
For example, the admin table still has the same username and password in its one and only record, but the explorers table is empty - that is, there is no data in it, because in the SQL file, I removed all the insert statements. So, whether you move data in addition to the structure is completely up to you. For some tables, you might want to include them in the script, and for others, you might want to use a completely fresh copy of the table. So you've reproduced your database, structure, and data on the remote site, and now you're ready to work with it from your remote web site, and I'll show you how to configure your connections file to do that in another video.
