Animating the Q and A graphic states

Video: Animating the Q and A graphic states

Now in the faq.html page let's come over to the CSS Styles. First we want to come back into faq letter_a. Let's come down to the Block properties, and let's set the Display of this item to None. Choose OK. We want to make sure that the letter a does not show until we actually animate the question state open. Let's come back to faq.js. Now inside of the if statement that checks to see if the outermost container has the open class, after we animate the height to 0, let's come in here and hit a Return. Let's type dollar sign, beginning and ending parentheses, this, .closest, beginning and ending parentheses. Inside of the parentheses, two tick marks for string literal, .faq. Outside of the parentheses .find, beginning and ending parentheses.

Animating the Q and A graphic states

Inside of the parentheses two tick marks for a string literal, .letter_a, outside of the parentheses .fadeOut, beginning and ending parentheses, semicolon. Inside of the parentheses 500 milliseconds. Next line, dollar sign, parentheses, this. Outside of the parentheses .closest, beginning and ending parentheses.

Inside of the parentheses tick marks for a string literal, .faq, outside of the parentheses .find, beginning and ending parentheses, inside of the parentheses two tick marks for a string literal, .letter_q. Outside of the parentheses .animate, beginning and ending parentheses, semicolon. Inside of the parentheses for animate, inside of the parentheses for animate, beginning and ending brackets. Inside of the brackets two tick marks for a string literal, type left. Outside of the string literal but still inside of the brackets, colon, then two tick marks for another string literal, then type 25px.

So when the answer is animating down, we're going to fade out the letter a. We're going to animate the position of the q to be over closer to the type. Inside of the else statement after the animation for the newHeight, let's hit Return, dollar sign, beginning and ending parentheses, this, .closest, parentheses, inside tick marks for a string literal, type .faq, .find, parentheses, tick marks inside for a string literal, .letter_a, outside of the parentheses, .fadeIn, parentheses, semicolon, 500 milliseconds inside of the fadeIn.

Let's hit a Return, dollar sign, beginning and ending parentheses, this, .closest, parentheses, tick marks inside for a string literal, .faq, .find, parentheses, tick marks for a string literal, .letter_q, outside .animate, parentheses, semicolon.

Inside of animate beginning and ending brackets. Inside of the brackets two tick marks for a string literal, left, outside of the string literal but still inside of the brackets, colon, tick marks again for a string literal, put in 10px. And so in the else portion of this if statement, when the answer is animating open, we're going to fade in the letter a, and we're going to move to the letter q toward the left to give some room for the a to fade in. To test this, let's choose File > Save All. Let's switch back to faq.html. Let's come down and choose Preview in Browser.

Now over in the browser I can click on the individual questions. When they animate open, the letter a will fade in, and the q will move over to the left. And this will happen for every one of the items I click, and then when I click on the question again, the answer will close up, the letter a will fade away and the q will move back over to the right. So now that I have the animations of the letters q and a working in conjunction with the animation state of the answer. In the next movie, we'll look at how to add an anchor link and automatically open one of the faq questions that we saw in the introduction video.
