Inside of the parentheses for ready, type function, beginning and ending parentheses, beginning and ending bracket. Let's split that open on the brackets. So inside of this document ready is everything that's going to happen once the browser has downloaded all of the HTML. So the first thing we're going to do inside of here is redefine the panel width. Now that the document is ready, we can use jQuery to find out how wide these sliding panels are and redefine that panel width variable. Then we can use that later on our scripts. Now, to target the variable that's outside of this function and global to the document, we're going to type window.panelWidth, we're going to set that equal to, and then we're going to query the width of the sliding panels. So dollar sign, beginning and ending parenthesis, tick mark inside for a string literal, .sp outside of the parentheses .width, another set of parentheses, and a semicolon.
So now whatever the width of our sliding panels main container is is going to be set to that value for this panel width variable, and then throughout the rest of our script, as long as we reference this with window.panelWidth, we can always get access to the width of our sliding panel. Now with our panel width defined, next we can work on positioning the panels so they're not all sitting on top of each other.
