Tooltips can greatly improve the usability of your web site by providing direction and cues to visitors. In this course, Chris Converse shows how to convert text or graphics into a mouse-sensitive tooltip. The tutorials demonstrate how to create the markup in Dreamweaver and activate the tooltip with jQuery, as well as add positioning and effects.
When you download the exercise files, there's going to be three folders inside of there; folders 1, 2, and 3. For those of you who are premium members of the lynda.com online training library, you'll have access to all three of these folders. However, for those of you who are not premium members, we do offer all of the files inside of folder 1 for free. Now folder 1 contains all of the files that are going to give us a basic layout that we can work from. Now you can follow along in this course by adding a tooltip into an existing website or web page that you have, or you can use the files inside of folder 1 and work inside of here.
For premium members, we have folder 2 which contains a source Photoshop file with all of the slices intact. So you can use this to customize some of your graphics while you are taking this course. And then lastly, inside of folder 3 is a copy of the entire final project. So you can open up the files inside of here and see how the project that you are building is tracking with what we should have as a final project. So now that we are familiar with the exercise files, next we can work on creating the project folders.
