Exercise files are available to premium subscribers of Lynda.com. Simply download the exercise files to your computer, and place them on the Desktop for ease of use. The exercise files are organized by chapter number, but many of the early chapters start with a file from the original_city_site folder. In these early chapters, I'll have you work with the same file for two or three lessons in a row, so save your files as you go. Toward the end of the course, when we start working with more than one font, I provide you with new starting points for each lesson.
Whenever an exercise file is available for a video, you'll see a yellow overlay at the bottom of the screen that indicates the location and the name of the exercise file. I also provide final files for each chapter. Some of the final files, such as the museo_sans_site in Chapter 09-08 uses the @font-face syntax, and requires font files to work properly. Due to licensing issues, these font files have not been provided. You'll need to download the files as shown in the lesson.
Other files with the tk in their title use Typekit fonts. The fonts in these files will not work on your system, because the Typekit embed code only works for the domain name used in the course. So to make these fonts work, you'll need to set up your Typekit, and put your own embed code in the file. Still other files, like the Ubuntu site in Lesson 10-04, use Google Web Fonts, and will work from your system as is. Working with the exercise files can add value to the training.
However, if you don't have access to the exercise files, you can still follow along with the videos using your own files.
