Unlike other forms of Digital Publishing, eBook apps are more than just a file format. They are native applications that have been compiled for a specific operating system. Here are my ipad, I've downloaded the Lowe's Creative Ideas magazine. I'll tap to open, and here we get a look at the branded portal. In this portal, I can manage my subscription, and view past issues. I'll tab to open an issue. You can that see we have animations. I'll swipe to switch pages, and we can see that there's a video right here.
You simply tap to play, Then I'll tap to pause. Other features include an interactive table of contents. Tapping on an entry will take into that article. If I rotate my device, I now get a different view. In the case of this eBook app, I get a two-page view. Another common feature of eBook apps is Hyperlinks. In this case, I like the look of this sink. If, I tap on it, I'm taken to the product page where I can get more information about this particular sink.
Tapping the Back button, I return to my magazine. Tapping on the screen will bring up my thumbnail view of the TOC. I can navigate through the magazine in this way; I navigate to another page, and then tap to close the TOC. Let's return to the branded portal. I'll tap the screen and across the top, I have a status bar; with one tap at the Library button, I'm brought back to my branded portal. EBook apps have taken the digital publishing world by storm.
Characterized by a wealth of interactive content and nonlinear reading order, eBook apps are specifically targeted for tablet and mobile devices. They are offered in most major marketplaces but, there is no immediate distinction between them and other forms of eBooks. Choosing the eBook app as your digital publishing format will certainly put you in good company.
