After landing a client, the designer's first chore is to communicate and develop the initial idea, whether it's a storyboard for a film or ad, or a multifaceted marketing campaign for a product or service. Learn how to transform a client's request into a presentable concept in this course. Craig Smallish walks through the development process for various creative scenarios, from assessing the client and the scope of the job to free-associating and sketching your ideas. Learn to create descriptive copy to accompany your visuals and create iteration after iteration of your design. Finally, Craig shows how to choose your strongest idea through a process of refinement.
How a creative goes about producing a finished product, that process of trial and error is much like any inventor who must eliminate the ideas that don't work in order to get to the one that does. I encourage you to hang onto all of your work. Although a great deal of it initially goes unused, there will be occasions where one of your rejects turns out to be a perfect fit later on down the line. Maybe even for an entirely different project. For example, this note sketch idea where we daisy chain thousands of these little solar panels together.
Linking up a whole community to help power something big. Maybe like a concert or a community redevelopment project. Maybe it'll fit somewhere. Maybe not. But at this point, this thing is worth hanging on to. That discarded idea might come back to life. Possibly in some reinvented form as your next quick concept.
