I love type in all its forms, so when I encounter type that is strong and powerful, it's really exciting for me to see type playing a starring role in our visual world. When we look at body copy or text type, we want to see high legibility, smooth and consistent color and an inviting layout with ample entry points. We experience display type in a completely different way. When type is, living large, we see it as a graphic mass, a focal point in the design. In this example the A functions as the apex of a sturdy column of type, which anchors the design and serves as a counterpoint to the image. When individual letters are gigantic, it also allows us to appreciate the real beauty of the shapes of the letter forms. Like the elegant curves and the transitions from thick to thin, on this paragraph opener. Or the softly rounded edges of the letters Mo.
