If you haven't done it already, please look at the process breakdown chart from the resources guide. I'll be summarizing what happens in each phase of work. You can take a look at the chart for more specific details. I offer this chart to you as a reference for describing your work to clients; this is the kind of language that you can use in your agreements. I call the first phase of work Project Initiation. Some designers don't think of it as a phase of work, because this is the point at which you're trying to be awarded the project. Figure out what will entail and create a Designer-Client Agreement. So, the goal of this phase is to establish the basic parameters of the project and get a signed contract. I don't recommend that this phase appear in your Designer-Client Agreement, but I do recommend that you track your time and factor it into the next phase of work.
