Whether you're an aspiring or experienced artist, this course provides detailed coverage of CorelDRAW, the flagship vector-based illustration and layout application. Author Scott Georgeson, the official creator of video training for CorelDRAW X4, X5, and X6, helps you get up to speed with the basics of vector drawing. Scott demonstrates how to use objects, layers, and pages to organize documents effectively and he discusses working with color, Artistic Text, drawing tools, and special effects. The course also covers how to align and group objects to lay them out more effectively and how to dictate the layering of objects with the Weld, Trim, and Intersect commands.
This course was created by Scott Georgeson. We're honored to host his tutorials in the lynda.com library.
Well, we're remaining on Page 25 of the Spiral tool. We'll go back a page, select our business card, Ctrl+C, copy to the clipboard, forward and Ctrl+V, paste down. Very important, you must remember to save every time we make a change. Let's zoom in nice and close to the center section and we'll come over and we will select our Spiral tool. Make sure you've got a Symmetrical Spiral, and I'm going to go with 15 revolutions, so just type that in, and click right at the center, finger on Ctrl and Shift.
Now, if we were to go just there, that looks quite nice, but if you go all the way so it just touches the outline of the outer circle, it actually looks a little bit better. What's wrong with that? Well, the outline thickness of course. So if I go back to my Pick tool, on the Property bar, while that's still selected, I can adjust the outline thickness. So I might come back to say 0. 5 and that looks a lot better. And what I'm going to do is now create a duplicate.
So Plus (+) on my keyboard or Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. Now, remember they're both black in color, both of the ones we've got. I'm going to right-click my mouse on the color white and deselect. On the Property bar my Nudge distance setting needs to be really small. I've got this set to 0.1 of a millimeter, which is very small. When I select the white spiral on top, and I just go one arrow to the right, can you see the effect? So what happens now is I can see the black spiral underneath and the white spiral on top has moved to the right a little, giving an unusual shadow effect, it's kind of cool.
Now, if I take that circle that it's sitting over the top of, so I take the circle there, and I right-click and give that a white outline, see how it all blends quite nicely now, doesn't it?. Doesn't that look good? Okay, F4, zoom back out. If you go ahead and do that, don't forget to Save, and then we'll move on to the next lesson.
