Whether you're an aspiring or experienced artist, this course provides detailed coverage of CorelDRAW, the flagship vector-based illustration and layout application. Author Scott Georgeson, the official creator of video training for CorelDRAW X4, X5, and X6, helps you get up to speed with the basics of vector drawing. Scott demonstrates how to use objects, layers, and pages to organize documents effectively and he discusses working with color, Artistic Text, drawing tools, and special effects. The course also covers how to align and group objects to lay them out more effectively and how to dictate the layering of objects with the Weld, Trim, and Intersect commands.
This course was created by Scott Georgeson. We're honored to host his tutorials in the lynda.com library.
Well, we're remaining on Page 24, the Polygon tool page to do the next phase of our business card project. Now, as we did before, go back a page, select the card, so we've got where we're up to, Ctrl+C; forward a page, and Ctrl+V. Well, we'll grab the Zoom tool, zoom right into this section here, and let's select the Polygon tool. I'm going to simply click right in the center, click, finger on Ctrl and Shift to resize perfectly, just go out to round about there, and what we're going to do is, well, we'll size it up in just a moment, but first of all, let's give it somewhere between 90 and 100 points; I'll give it say 90 points, hit Enter.
Select the Shape tool, all little node will appear, now click and drag. Now, it's very easy with so many nodes to kind of twist it and do whatever, but we need for this to create perfectly straight lines to the center, so finger on Ctrl. That constraints perfectly. Wait till you get to the center and lock into the center, release your mouse, release the Ctrl key, and as you can see, we have these perfect basically straight lines. So I'm going to right-click so that those lines are white in color, and I'm also going to go back and select my Pick tool.
Now, in terms of size I would like for this to be 50 millimeters, so with your lock on, type in a value of 50, hit Enter, and of course it's over the top of everything right now. We really want it to sit just in front of that purple square and be below everything else. So right-click on the X, go down to Order, and it's actually just off the page. So what I'll do so that you can see it, same thing, is I'll go up to Arrange, come down to Order, and choose In Front Of.
Well, you could right- click to do the same thing. And then just click on the purple background and that will move and sit just on top of that, which is below everything else. And doesn't that look really cool? F4, zoom back out, and Save. Make sure you save so that we're keeping our project all the way along. When that's finished saving, please move on to the next lesson.
