Video: What you should know before watching this course

Aside from your content, your site's navigation is probably the most important component of any site you'll build, so it's only natural that you're going to want to focus on learning navigation early in the process of learning web design. However, before we begin, I think it's important to discuss what you should know before going through these exercises. As I assume a certain level of knowledge of certain terms and concepts. First, make sure that you have a basic working knowledge of HTML. Although I do discuss properly structuring navigation, this course focuses on CSS, not HTML.

So if you're brand new to web design, you will want to check out some of the introductory HTML courses that lynda.com has to offer first. I'll also go right into authoring the CSS, so a basic working knowledge of CSS, its syntax, and basic properties are recommended prior to watching this course. If you haven't worked with CSS before, I recommend starting with my CSS Fundamentals, CSS Core Concepts, and CSS Page Layout courses before tackling this one. Those courses are designed specifically for new web designers and many of the techniques and terminology that are used in this course are covered there.
