Plus, learn to access lynda.com on the go, either through our mobile site, or the iOS app, which also supports playing videos on your TV via AirPlay and an Apple TV.
The updated iOS app from lynda.com, offers an airplay feature that works with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Airplay lets you quickly and wirelessly, move our movies from your Apple device, to a TV or projector. This video demonstrates how to connect an Apple TV and lynda.com to help you learn from our movies from your television at home, at school, or at a business. All you need is an active lynda.com account, our iOS app version 2.0 or higher, and an Apple TV. Begin by connecting the Apple TV to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable. Make sure your Apple TV is plugged in and powered on. Next make sure your Apple TV is connected to your network either via Ethernet or over WiFi.
You can check your connection by going to Settings > General > Network. If you're connected over WiFi, you should see your network name. If you're connected via an Ethernet cable you won't see a network name but you should see an IP address if you're properly connected. If you have multiple Apple TVs press the Menu button on your remote to return to General settings and note the name of the one you're setting up. Next on your iOS device open the lynda.com mobile app. Navigate to and select the course you wish to view.
Then tap the movie you want to watch. You may want to pause the movie until you begin playing it on your Apple TV. As long as your device is connected to the same network as your Apple TV, you should see this button to the right of the playback controls. Tap it, and all of the Apple TVs or airport express bay stations on your network will appear. You could play audio from your iPad through an airport express using Airplay. But if you want to stream audio and video, select the Apple TV you want to play the movies through. Regardless of what screen your Apple TV is currently on, the movie should begin playing after a few seconds.
While the movie is playing you can control it from your device or with your Apple TV remote. In addition to playing and pausing the movie you can rewind 30 seconds. Skip to the next or previous movies. Or drag the scrubber bar to jump to a specific point in the currently playing movie. Tap to turn auto play on if you'd like the entire course to play continuously. And tap back when you want to stop playing and resume browsing the library from your device.
So if you have an Apple TV and the free lynda.com iOS app, we hope you'll take advantage of this quick and easy ability to move your training to the big screen.
