What to expect after filing

What to expect after filing
So, what happens after you file a trademark application? Well, nothing immediately. The trademark office takes six months to finish examining the application. In many cases, what you'll get isn't a registration, you'll actually get an office action. This is a preliminary rejection from the trademark office, either asking for clarification about something, maybe the goods that you described. Or, citing a trademark that was prior to yours and saying we won't give you a registration because of this prior registration. In that case, you have six months to respond to that. There are times when you can just call the trademark examiner and say, I, I've received this in the mail, what can I do with it? If it's a minor issue, they may correct it over the phone. If they don't, then within six months you have to file a legal brief. This is sometimes where you hire a trademark attorney like myself. The legal brief argues with the trademark office. Maybe they have cited a trademark against you…
