Looking at humor and the four quadrants of well-being

- In this chapter we've seen how humor sparks creativity and helps us shift perspective, giving us mental flexibility. We've also seen how humor dissolves tension in the body and helps manage stress, making us feel physically better. On an emotional level, we've seen how humor helps us feel connected to others, and gain self-confidence, while helping us cope with our fears. These three elements, mental, physical, and emotional, make up three of the four parts that are vital for balance in our lives. These essential components are known as the 4 Quadrants of Well-Being. The fourth quadrant can be labeled "spirit." In sum, we have the mind, body, heart, and soul. Each of these quadrants is strengthened by an active and ongoing use of humor. The spirit is related to mood and energy, it's related to efficacy, how we feel about each other and ourselves. It allows us to take our work seriously, while taking ourselves lightly.
