The reason for this is that people have the impression that's it all about tricking search engines, yet nothing could be further from the truth. Wouldn't be nice if there were some magic formula for SEO? You could just mix the secret ingredient, wave your magic wand and voila! Instant rankings! But of course if it were that easy, anyone could do it. Then the search engines would change their ranking formula, which they do anyway, and everything you did would be lost.
For long time, that's how some people did SEO. They would figure out the ranking formula of the day and when it didn't work anymore, they'd figure out the new one. But they were constantly chasing their tail with this method. Rather than you chasing your tail or the latest magic formula, if you really understand what SEO is, it will make things a whole lot easier for you. So what is SEO really? All it is, in very simple terms, is making your web site the best it can be for your site visitors and the search engines. Simple, right? To best understand this concept, think about who your web site's target audience is.
In a nutshell, it's the people, not the search engines, who are looking for what you have to offer on your website. Think about those people at the other end of Google who are doing a search. They have some reason to be at Google in the first place. Perhaps they have a question they want answered or maybe they have a problem they want solved or some sort of other need that they need to be filled. Keep this user in mind constantly as you try to understand what SEO is. Think about what they would want to see on your page after clicking over to it from a search engine with their question, problem or need.
What you'll ultimately be trying to do with your SEO program is provide those people, your target market, with exactly what they want. The way you'll do that is by making your content accessible to them and to the search engines as well as by answering their questions, solving their problems, and fulfilling their needs. When you look at it this way, there is no need for any sort of magic formula or tricks. The beauty of this method of SEO, which I have developed over the years, is that it's long lasting.
The search engines can change their algorithms as much as they want and it shouldn't affect the targeted traffic you get to your site, because you're shooting for relevancy rather than tricks.
