This chapter will show you all of the steps to create this email. Notice the border background, the logo, the copy, and the address information. This is the email we'll end up creating by the end of this chapter. If you don't have the exercise files you can follow along with your own files. First let's get our tools ready. You'll need Photoshop or other image editing software, you'll need a Text Editor of course, you'll need web browsers, you'll also need prep files for CSS and HTML.
In addition we're going to talk a little bit about the background image exercise file that have VML code, and you'll also need FTP software and a remote web server. Let's start with the design. Our goal is to take this design and to evaluate it so that we can turn it into HTML table codes. Looking at this design I can see that we will need three main nested tables and then we'll have two minor tables up top and bottom. The Wrapper table will take the place of the HTML body tag in a webpage.
Then we'll have a table for the background border and we'll have a table for the content. At the top we're just going to add a very simple table to add the links to the web version and at the bottom we're going to add an equally simple table to handle the Unsubscribe link. This will ensure from top to bottom our email will be centered in the same width. In addition within our content table we're going to have each row as a table data or td cell. Note at the bottom here with the Facebook icon in the lower right we have Find us on Facebook, Copy, and we have the Copyright.
All three elements will require three table data cells. But we'll deal with that in detail when we add images. With an idea how to build our email with HTML tables, next we'll define the colors, dimensions, and other details we will need.
