Breaking down a project for estimating

To estimate a design project, you're determining the fees and expenses required. Think of estimating as a form of planning or forecasting. You're taking your best educated guess at all of a project's financial implications. These are the things to think about when breaking a project down for estimating. Work required, talent, suppliers and contingenices. Based on your discussions with the client, you'll have a clear idea of the scope of work. It's up to you to figure out how this work will be done. Think it through and identify the phases of work required. Go to your resource files to get my design process chart for an outline of phases. Consider how many hours each phase will need. Multiply the estimated hours by your hourly rate. Then, run the calculations through another one or two pricing strategies that I've discussed in this course.
