Patenting your ideas
So you've got an idea, and you want to patent it. What's next? Well, there's a couple of things to consider. How do you file, should you file yourself? Should you conduct a search? Whether to search for prior patents is an interesting question. It depends on whether you want to know whether there's prior patent that might block yours or whether you believe there aren't any. The reason is this if you do a patent search and you find prior patents then you must disclose them in your patent application. Some people choose not to do patent searches and simply to know that their patent is novel and to file their patent application, and to let the patent office do a search. As part of the application process, you pay a small search fee, and they conduct the search, and when they respond to your patent with a, an office action, they will give you the search.
