Now let's talk about company values. Vision and values go together as the foundational documents of creating culture in your small business. The vision describes the where, the destination of where the business is headed. The values, on the other hand, describe how we're going to get there, what is it that we believe in, what are we going to use as our operating method in getting there. Systems are important to have in a business because they tell people what they should do and how to do it. The problem is, we don't want people to act like robots. We want them to be able to make their own decisions, and values fill in the gaps that give people guiding principles to make their own choices when things aren't clearly described in systems.
