Before taking out the big guns, let's see what we can do using some old school methods. The following techniques will work fine under some circumstances and can be very handy if you only have access to previous versions of After Effect, such as CS5 or below. In this movie I'll show you how to create fake 3D type using layer styles as well as the alpha effect and the shutter effect. I'll also point out their limitation of these work flows and where they are breaking. This is the reason why I'm not including these tools in the official test. However, the techniques you are about to learn can be very useful, if you don't have a modern or hardware or when you are on a tight budget and a tight dead line. Think of it as a bonus chapter in which you learn how to cheat in after effect. Which is always fun. Okay. So let's begin.
