Creating Photo Books with Blurb presents three separate workflows for creating and publishing books that showcase photographs using the Blurb self-publishing service. The course starts with an exploration of photo bookmaking in BookSmart, Blurb's free desktop software, then shows how to make a simple photo book in Bookify, Blurb's online bookmaking service. The course also covers Blurb's PDF to Book plug-in for use with custom books created in Adobe InDesign, as well as information on ordering copies of photo books and selling them in the Blurb online bookstore.
Online photo sites like Flickr have become really popular as a place to share and store photos. If you store photos on a photo site like Flickr or Photobucket, Picasa Web or SmugMug, you can slurp your photos down from there straight into a BookSmart book library. Let's see how this works with Flickr. I'll click Get Photos and then I'll choose Flickr.com. Now the first time I do this, I've to go through a little authorization handshake between Flickr and BookSmart. I'll click Authorize in this message box. That opens my web browser to Flickr and here I'll sign in.
Here, Flickr is telling me that Blurb wants to link to my Flickr account, and over here it says that if I got to this page because I asked blurb to connect to this account, click here. So I'll click Next. Flickr wants me to authorize blurb to access the Flickr account. So I'll click OK, I'll authorize it. And now I've successfully authorized blurb. I'll close this window per the instructions and go back to Blurb and here there's another message. I'm told to click Continue once I've authorize BookSmart in my web browser.
So I'll click Continue and that connects Blurb and Flickr. The next time I use Flickr with BookSmart, I won't have to jump as many hurdles. I happen to have two sets in my Flickr photo stream. one of cover shots with a couple of photos and one of valley views. I can select both sets and bring them down into my BookSmart library by checking them right here, or I could go to Photostream and I could see the individual photos inside of the sets. I could magnify a photo to check it out more closely and if I decide I want that photo, I can check it here.
I'm going to check all of these and then I'm going to click Download and the photos download straight into the My Photos library of the book that's opened in BookSmart. If I scroll down, you can see them here. They're already to be added to this book.
