Creating a Blurb book in InDesign has gotten a lot easier, since Blurb released its plug-in for InDesign. The plug-in helps you make InDesign templates that are just the right size for Blurb books. And, it helps you export your completed book design from InDesign, with all the PDF settings required by Blurb's printer. In this movie, I will cover downloading and installing Blurb's InDesign plug-in. To download the plug-in, I will start here on the Blurb homepage. I will go to this Apps menu and I'll choose Adobe InDesign Plug-in.
On the next page, I will click Download Plug-in. Here, I need to sign in to my Blurb account. If you don't already have a Blurb account, click Register to sign up for a free Blurb account. The Blurb website detected that I'm on a Mac. If I'm not on a Mac, I will click here, Not on a Mac, and that will take me to a page of plug-in downloads for the PC. What's important on this page is to select the plug-in for the version of Adobe InDesign that I have installed on my computer.
I'm not running CS5.5 on this computer; I'm running Adobe InDesign CS5. So I'll click here to Download the correct Plug-in. When the plug-in finishes downloading, I will go to the download location and I will double-click on the icon for the Blurb Template Creator and then I'll follow the simple instructions to install the plug-in in my copy of InDesign. The installer should take just a few seconds, and that's all there is to it. I'm now ready to launch InDesign and begin designing my book, with the help of the Blurb Template Creator and the PDF export settings that this plug-in has installed in InDesign.
In the next movie, I'll show you how to do just that.
