If you are really concerned that your students might post inappropriate content, or you want to provide one on one feedback to your students on their post, before those posts are visible to other students, forum moderation is for you. With forum moderation you can review student's posts before they appear on the discussion board and then publish them or return them. I've got to warn you, this is a lot of work on your part. It's also a forum setting. Let me get into the weekly class discussions, and I'm going to edit the weekly class discussion settings.

It's also a forum setting. Let me get into the weekly class discussions, and I'm going to edit the weekly class discussion settings.

And I'm gong to scroll down. And actually, between the last movie and this one, I've already turned it on. You'll see why in a minute. But I'm going to scroll down, and actually it's down here, and it says Force Moderation of Posts. And if I turn that on, any additional posts that the students make from here on out goes into a moderation queue that I have to review before the student's posts make it to the discussion board. So, I've got it turned on here. Let's now get into the weekly class discussions forum.

That's the room where the conversation takes place. And I want you to notice that there's a new button here at the top, which says Moderate Forum. If I click the Moderate Forum button It's then going to show me two posts that are now sitting here waiting for me to moderate. And I'm going to click on the first one, moderate it. And I get to see what the student posted. In this case, we're continuing our Cicero thread. So students are posting lorem ipsum text. And I have two choices. I can Publish this, or I can Return it.

So you've got two options, Publish or Return. Although, it really should say perish. But, Publish, Return. If I Publish it, it automatically goes to the discussion board. If I Return it, it goes back to the student, and then I can type a message saying, please rewrite using ANK guidelines. And I submit it. This message will never appear to anyone but that student. And the student would then have to rewrite it and resubmit it.

Got one more in here. Let's show you what it's like to actually publish it. I just click on Publish and click on Submit. I have nothing now waiting waiting for me in the queue. If I now go into the week two cognitive theories, I'll see that his reply shows up here. So, I've actually moderated it, and put it in. So that's how to moderate discussion board posts.
