Creating continuous and baseline dimensions

Sometimes creating a series of relative dimensions can be the best way to document a design. Fortunately AutoCAD allows us to quickly place these dimensions one right after the other. In this lesson we're going to explore the baseline and continuous dimensioning tools. On my screen I have a drawing that represents a road cross section And I would like to dimension several of these features, to the left and the right side of the center line. I'll start by creating a linear dimension, from the center line to the right side edge of pavement. I'll pull this up and click to place it. At this point I would like to pick up where I left off and dimension from the edge of pavement to the top back of curb. Rather than re-launching the linear command, I'm going to access the Contineous Dimensioning tool. Now I'm afraid we won't find this tool in the Annotation panel, this is actually a subset of all the Annotation tools. To find the Continuous Tool, I'll come over to the Annotate tab, and then…
