Understanding templates
In the last lesson, we learned how easy it is to move content between drawings. What if we took the concept a little further? What if each new drawing we created already contained much of our typical content? In this lesson, we're going to explore the concept of a template. As you can, see I've just launched AutoCAD, and I am sitting in the default generic unsaved drawing file. This file is completely empty. It has no content. Essentially, it's a blank canvas. So, anything I need in this drawing, I'll have to create from scratch, or drag over from another drawing. Wouldn't it be nice if the drawing that we started from, already contained the items that we used most? Things like title blocks, legends, scale bars, or company logos would make good examples. This is where template comes in. A template allows you to define the starting point for new drawings. To show you what I mean, I'm going to create a new drawing from a template.
