So now that we have our virtual filing cabinet, I am going to show you the most basic way to fill it; to get images from your memory card into your virtual filing cabinet. We're actually going to do it for a Mac in this movie, and then I am also going to do it for a Windows machine in the next movie. Depending on what particular flavor you have, choose the appropriate movie. I am going to put some pictures in the drawer; Pictures 2011. And the pictures that I have are here on this memory card. They are in the DCIM folder, which stands for Digital Camera Images, and here they are right here. And you'll notice that I have a number of RAW files, 30 RAW files, and they are all basically of the same subject, so this first one is going to be quite easy.
And they were taken in July of 2011. So let's create our folder here. I am going to go to File>New Folder, 07-11 Passion Flower; just like that. I've created my folder. Now all I have to do is go here, over to my memory card, and I am going to go to Select All. Select all of those images, and then I am just going to drag them into my virtual filing cabinet.
Now you'll notice since I shot RAW files that we have quite a bit of information here; over 600 megabytes of information going into my virtual filing cabine. And unlike just dragging stuff willy-nilly onto your computer, it's actually going to a place that I will be able to find later on. And now our images are in there, and we can open them up. And we will talk more about viewing these images later on.
I just want you to see that we have made another addition to our virtual filing cabinet, and it was literally as simple as creating a new folder, and dragging and dropping our images into it. This is the basic method. No photo software required; just using what you already have on your computer.
