Another thing that you can do with your library is that you can actually split it into two different libraries. This is handy if your library has become too big or if you want to grab a handful of projects, a slideshow or folders, whatever you need to and put it into a different library. So, I am going to show you how to do that really quick and it's very handy, really helping you manage your disk space. So, let's say that we want to split this library.
So, what we want to do is we want to take the iPhone Shots and the Product Shots. I want to create a new library with those to help reduce the size of this library. So, I just select as many things as I want to add to the new library for the split. It can be a whole bunch of stuff. We'll just do two right here. Then I'll just go up to File, go to Export > Items as New Library. This is what we are going to do. We are going to send it to Exercise Files and we are going to call it Split Library.
Split Library is going to go right in here, we are going to consolidate our masters, we are going to include previews, we want that alert when we are done. So, we know that it's finished and done. We are just going to hit Export. Off to the races we go. It's down here. It's working away, working away. This computer, I have to tell you, may go a little faster than your computer at home. So, look, our stuff is still here so we'll come back and deal with that in a minute. Here is our Split Library.
So we can switch to that now, which I recommend you do before you delete anything. So, let's switch to our Split Library. We'll go to Other here and there it is. We follow the path here. Make sure it's the right one. It is. We are going to choose it and look at that. Isn't that neat? It maintained our project structure, all of our stuff is here, really slick. So, now we know everything is okay. So, now what I can do is I can switch back to my Aperture Library.
Since I don't really need that stuff living in two different places, so we can delete these projects here because we know that we've already done the split and really to gain the benefits of the split then you need to do some deleting here. So, I'll just basically right-click. We are going to delete that project. We go right here, we are going to delete that project. Here we go and then we are going to go to Trash and we'll see all that stuff there. So we are going to right click on Trash. We are going to empty the Trash.
Everything goes away, nice and clean. Now, we are just back to our Great Outdoors here. But if we want to visit our other shots, it's not a problem. We go to File > Switch to Library, go to Split Library, there they are. Everything is here. Very sleek. So, this is a way to reduce the size of a large library.
