So it's easier to switch among libraries but you can actually take a part of your existing library and send it out as a separate library. This becomes very handy if you want to let's say take a part of your library on the road with you or you create something out on the road that you want to bring home or you want to share or you want to have someone else work on a piece of your library. There are a million and one uses for this. Let me show you how it works. So you can take a project and export it out as library or you can take a folder.
You can even take a slideshow that you've created and export it as a library. I want to export my iPhone Shots project as a library. So I want to be a free standing library. So all I have to do is just right- click on it, and we go to Export. Then we go down to Export > Project as New Library. Select that. Now we're going to go where? Well, we need to put it somewhere.
So we're going to put it in our Exercise Files. We're going to call it iPhone Shots. You have some options when you're doing this. If your masters are spread out, let's say you're using the referenced library approach. You might want to consolidate them into the library so that everything travels together. Now in this case, everything is in our library, so whether we check that box or not doesn't really make a difference. But if I was using a reference library, I would want to check that box so that Aperture would pull in the masters and put it all in the library for me It makes it a lot easier.
Do I want to include previews in my export? Yes, I do actually. Yeah, it will save either me or someone else some work up the road. Do I want an alert when finished? Well, of course because I like knowing when it's done doing what it's doing. That's all you have to do. Now we're just going to click Export Library. It's working on it right down here. Here we go and we can click OK or we can reveal it in Finder. Look at this, here is our New Library right here.
So does that mean we can switch to it? Well, of course we can. It didn't erase this. We still have our work here, but we've just created a new library with just that work. So I'm going to go up to File, go to Switch to Library. We'll go to Other, because we haven't opened this one yet. Then we're going to look for iPhone Shots. Make sure it's the right one. It is. I'm going to choose that and look at this. Now we have a library just with our iPhone Shots all to itself, which means I could share this library with somebody else.
In fact, I'll be talking about that soon enough.
