Rendering a 3D scene

Video: Rendering a 3D scene

So what good is it to create a Stereo 3D scene if you don't know how to render it? In this movie, we'll take a look at how you do that. Generally speaking you don't render the 3D glasses view that you see in the Stereo 3D comp. Now if you're a hobbyist, you might disagree with me, but for professional output, you typically are rendering each eye view. So in fact, these are your views that are rendered out. You can find them in the Project panel. I'll just use the shortcut, Command+ Option+0, to bring up the render queue and just drag them right in there.

You can find them in the Project panel. I'll just use the shortcut, Command+ Option+0, to bring up the render queue and just drag them right in there.

Now, of course, as in any case, I can use whatever codec and output module I've prefer for that. You'll note that each composition is in full color and can be rendered at full resolution. These rendered left and right channels can be then used in whatever pipeline you are using overall to create your project. Now which pipeline to choose is, of course, beyond the scope of this course. So the stereo pipeline in After Effects does offer you a few different options of how to render a 3D scene.

You can leave the original scene unaffected and render that. You can render the left and right views, as we've done here for stereo output, or you can even render the preview using the 3D glasses effect.
