In After Effects CS3 Effects, Adobe Certified Instructor Chad Perkins explores the basic purposes and practical uses of each of the application's effects. He teaches in detail how to apply every native effect, covering 3D Channel effects, Blur & Sharpen effects, using channels for blending and reflections, color correction, distortion, particle systems, and keying. This training is essential for those who want to push After Effects CS3 to its limits. Exercise files accompany the course.
The mosaic effect is pretty simple and also pretty cool like so many of these other effects here. So I am going to apply the mosaic effect which basically turns everything into a mosaic a series of squares. I am going to apply to this really vibrant shot of Las Vegas all sorts of beautiful colors. But what just I apply here the resulting color palette is a little weak. I was expecting this to be like really vibrant lot of cool greens over here blues, purples and there is a couple little squares there but not too much. Well what we could do is go back and apply curves and our levels, hue/saturation and all that kind of stuff to really bring out these colors before we apply the mosaic effect and that would work.
However thankfully in the mosaic effect there is this little option called sharp colors if we check that it kind of automatically does that for us. Really brings out the contrast, increases saturation just makes it lot more vibrant. Now we could have changed how many horizontal blocks there are they get smaller as you increase the number of them. They get bigger as you decrease the number of them that's kind of a cool look. And then we could also increase the vertical blocks sort of similarly so if you want maybe like a fine tiny pattern you could take this out maybe to a 100 and then 100 on both and so you have a lot a little tiny squares or maybe not so intense there maybe 60 and 60.
Still kind of a mosaic looks like a Nintendo game or something. So it's good for creating stylized looks like this that's probably why it's in the stylized category, does serve one of the purposes though. Let's go to the Offensive Face comp and this is some footage of me and unfortunately I have been blessed with the face only mother could love and actually my mom really doesn't like that much either. So I basically duplicated this layer, made a circular mask and then I used mosaic to do the world of favor and mosaic out my face. So if somebody has done something naughty or maybe you don't want them to have their faces shown then mosaic has a really excellent effect for obscuring faces and things like that.
