Creating compound paths - After Effects Tutorial
From the course: After Effects Apprentice: 14 Shape Layers
Creating compound paths
We've been playing around with different ways of creating multiple paths within the same shape layer. Once you have that, there is different ways of combining those paths together to create what are called compound paths. To do that, let's work through a little exercise of creating a gear. I am going to go ahead and open up a new blank composition, in this case 03-Gear*starter, and let's build up our gear a piece at a time. I'm going to start off with creating a star. The points on that star are going to be the starting point for our teeth. Once I've selected the tool, I'm going to make sure that I'm filling with a solid color. That's good. I think I want to go with a 100% fill for this particular shape since gears tend to be solid. Pick any color you like. As you may have noticed by now with multiple lessons, I'm partial to gold. Stroke, again I'm going to make a solid color. 100% Opacity. I want to go back to a white stroke like I had before, and maybe something a little bit more…
