In Web Site Planning and Wireframing: Hands-On Training, Laurie Burruss, director of digital media at Pasadena City College, demonstrates the essentials of creating a web site with a polished, professional appearance and a compelling user experience. The goal of this hands–on course is to deconstruct a web site’s home page in order to identify its structural elements and feature set. Using Acrobat Pro and the web developer’s toolkit, Laurie shows how to capture a homepage and create, in another layer, its visual framework (wireframe). Exercise files and a downloadable PDF quiz accompany the course.

After learning the tools and techniques demonstrated in this course, viewers can continue on to the next course in this series: Creating a CSS Style Guide: Hands-On Training.
This title launches an all new series to the lynda.com Online Training Library that focuses on real world projects created through hands-on training. My name is Laurie Burruss. Time and time again, what I see is that designers, artists and developers don't really understand the processes involved in doing a project. They may know features, but not the thunk behind a project. Where in this case, how a web site is conceived. Too often people think, "I just need to learn the software application." But it's important to bring your passion, emotion, creativity and your design skills to all that you do.
Over the course of the title, we will explore the Internet, the World Wide Web, browsers and third-party extensions, the structure and feature of a homepage and the user's experience. Upon completion of this course you will be able to create a visual wireframe that shows the structures, features and affordances of a good homepage. This real world project serves as a proposal document and a working communication tool between the designer, the client and the team. The hands-on training projects are all about getting you from where you are to where you want to go. So let's get started.
