In Access 2010 Power Shortcuts, Access expert Alicia Katz Pollock shares hundreds of tips and shortcuts to vastly increase efficiency and get the full power out of Access 2010. Access gives you a few quick ways to jump to a record you need. Find, Go To and Search. Open up your Customers table, the Search box is down at the bottom. For example, I will type in Hinton, one of my sales reps and it find the first instance right here. If I press Enter again, the highlight will jump to the next customer with Hinton. I can keep pressing Enter to keep scrolling through them until I reach the last one. After that nothing will happen. Open up the Customers Order form and try the same thing.
I will do a search for Hinton and press Enter and I will scroll through all my records. Next, come back up to the Home ribbon and go to Go To. These options match the First, Previous, Next, and Last options that you see down in the lower left hand part of your form or table. So I can use this to jump to the last. You can also use Find, to locate the record that you need. Let's say, I need to call one of our customer who runs in deli.
But I can't remember the whole name of the store. I will start by clicking in the Company name and then on the Find button. I will Deli in the Find What box. It is specifying that I should look in the current document but because I already clicked in the Company Field, I can tell it Current Field. There is an option here for Match. Right now it says, Any part of the field, my alternatives are the Whole Field which wouldn't work because we don't have any places called just deli.
Or the Start of Field and we can't use that because I know that we have Katz's deli. So we will leave it on Any Part of Field. If I also have the word deli in other parts of the table or form, I may choose to make sure that this is a D and then tell it to Match Case so that only the word Deli with a capital letter is found. I will then click Find Next and it will go to the first matching field. If I keep clicking the Find Next button, I will scroll through all my matches until I get to the end.
At which point I will get a warning message. I will close it and then cancel my Find box. Making use of Search, Go To and Find give you several ways of quickly locating the record you need.

Click on text in the transcript to jump to that spot in the video. As the video plays, the relevant spot in the transcript will be highlighted.
