There are several ways you can insert today's date into a field. Let's open up our Orders table. When I create my order, I wanted to fill in today's date without having to type it out. I can enter it simply by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the semicolon on my keyboard. I can also click on this little calendar and choose the date that has the orange box around it. Both of these techniques also work when you're entering data into a form instead of a table. Even easier, I can set up my Order date field to automatically fill in the data. I will hit Escape to get out of this record and then go up to the Home ribbon and click on the Design View button.
I'll click on OrderDate field and down in the field properties at the bottom, there is Default Value, I will click in there and type an = sign, the word Now and an open parenthesis and a close parenthesis. I will go back to my datasheet view and it will ask me to save my table, I will say, Yes. Now scroll down and look at the new row at the bottom and you will see today's date already filled in and waiting for you. Now when you enter a new record, you can tab right over it as you do your data entry. Using these three techniques, you will never again have to type in today's date by hand.
