Introducing 2D prototyping techniques
2D prototypes are a great way to check your designs and the best part about them is you don't need any special tools or equipment. In fact using just a regular Inkjet or laser printer you can print out full size drawings of your parts and then using an X-ACTO knife cut out the shapes and check your work. The key tools that we're going to be using are the following. First off, we need a full-size drawing of your part. If your part is too big for a standard size sheet of paper, most office supply stores and places like Kinko's can produce large size prints for only a few dollars. Or you can tape multiple sheets together using the aid of some registration marks. Next, we need some scissors and an X-ACTO knife and if you want to get really fancy a shape cutter like one of these. Finally some heavy construction paper or cardboard and a glue stick.
